Food Pantry

May 12, 2010

During April vacation the kids of SFXyouth showed up and helped out at the food pantry. Smiles on their faces and their time given serving, washing dishes, and carrying bags. I am so very proud of all the kids and the job they did. We should have pictures up soon. The kids did such a great job they decided they would ike to go once month each sumer month. What great kids we have

THURSDAY

April 19, 2010

what was the first thing you thought of when you woke up this morning? The first thing you saw? Did you think about a fun thing you planned to do? breakfast? Did you look up and see your favorite poster or game?

did you know there are people waking up everyday wondering where their next meal will come from? Wondering where they are , until they remember that they are in a shelter, because they are homeless.  most people are only a paycheck or two away from being there.

On any given night in America, anywhere from 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless, according to estimates of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty. there are  growing number of them that have jobs and go to work everyday. Kids that go to school and you wouldn’t even know it. http://www.policyalmanac.org/social_welfare/homeless.shtml

So it’s our turn to give back on Thursday. Take a day off your vacation nd head on up to the food pantry. Wear your SFX shirts and bring your smile. These people aren’t there becaue they want to be, but because they don’t have  choice. Be the light of God for them . Who knows you may be the only smile they see that day.

For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after me.’ They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’ He will reply, ‘I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one of the least among you, you did not do for me.'” Matthew 25:41-45

Holy Week

March 30, 2010

It is holy week. There will be masses and vigils and all other wonderful things to put us in the spirit, It’s not like with Christmas where we have lights and trees and santa clause.

We have Easter eggs_ but what , if anything does that have to do with easter and the resurrection of Christ? Someone once said that we are more like eggs. Stay with me. When we get into trouble (hot water) what is our first choice? Is it to pray to crack open and allow Christ to come in and right all that is wrong? To make us part of his recipe, we must first allow Crist to open us and use us. It may be difficult but he has a recipe he is following.

or

Do we sit there in the hot water, becoming hard-boiled against Christ? Do we allow our hearts to be hardened and refuse God entrance in to the soft squishy and sometimes messy parts of us that need him most? Do we paint ourselves on the outside with pretty colors trying to make the rest of the world believe we are fine? Hidden away?Perfect from the outside but not unusable in God’s design?

One may be prettier than the other, but one is certainly more useful.

Just a thought for you this week
