Lent

March 18, 2010

Hi guys!

Lets talk a little about what it is we’re trying to focus on. It is Lent (no not lint guys… ) Anyway, how many of you understand what it means? As kids and young adults you all look forward to Christmas right? New bikes, video games, iPods and all sorts of other stuff, right? But lent isn’t quite as spectacular to many of you. How many of you think lent is simply about giving up candy, not eating meat on Friday, and a few chocolate eggs at the end?

Yup, Thought so :)

Come closer… closer…closer… OK TOO CLOSE.

just a little bit of silly…

Drag & Gary “Lent”, Matt Maher [Life Teen] from Life Teen on Vimeo.

time to get your thinking caps on. ready?

“For whoever would save his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it,” (Matthew 16:25).

It can seem difficult to spend these few weeks missing out on something we love, something we are used to having. Every Lenten promise is different and personal. The idea behind giving something up is to bring you closer to God. It’s a sacrifice (which is why you can’t give up homework) I mean after all he gave up his son on the cross for us right? 40 days .Jesus fasted  which if you think about it is way harder than skipping meat on Fridays, right? Seriously, Lets think about this.  These weeks leading up to Easter Sunday are a time of renewal of our faith, reconciliation within our hearts in preparation for the rising of the King. How much better does that get?  So just like that quote says if you give it up for God you get so much more in return. Even as an adult it’s hard to keep the focus. Sometimes we also decide to take on too much and that makes it difficult to keep our word.  Sometimes we try to go after something we think we need to work on but God has other ideas and puts us on a different path. Take a minute to be still and listen, He will tell you what he wants from you. Are you listening?

I really hope you stop for a minute and think about how your Lenten promise is going. Have you kept your word? Have you made a true sacrifice? Does your promise bring you closer to God? If it doesn’t perhaps it’s time to reevaluate. It’s never too late. Dont give up

Here is a great article. check out let me know what you think

COOKIES!!!

February 21, 2010

Ok so maybe it wasn’t the smartest idea for us to all get together on Ash Wednesday to bake cookies.  Considering it is a day of atonement and fasting to mark the first day of lent. The children survived as did the adults.  The adults all showed up with massive amounts of flour, sugar, chocolate chips, butter, raisins and vanilla. Michelle H. did a fantastic job getting all the kids organized and moving and created an assembly line. Moving through each step of measuring, scooping, pouring, dropping and baking with the greatest of ease. In just a few short hours VOILA hundreds of cookies! Oatmeal Raisin and Chocolate Chip. I don’t know about the rest of you but the dough is by far my favorite! I may just make some myself.  While the cookies were baking all of the children went outside and played in the snow. Huge snowball fights and a happy snowman later. The kids were happy and ready to set up the school cafeteria for the event on Friday.
I want to personally thank all the kids and parents for making this such a success. An extra thank you to Michelle for the use of her kitchen and house and Mary for making it all make sense. WTG everyone!
